CBUS Blue

The Columbus Blue Jackets, established in 2000, have become a cornerstone of Ohio's sports landscape, embodying the city's resilience and passion for hockey. From their inception, the team has been home to several standout players who have left an indelible mark on the franchise's history.

Rick Nash was the first overall pick in the 2002 NHL Draft and quickly became the face of the franchise. Over his nine seasons with the Blue Jackets, Nash amassed 289 goals and 547 points, leading the team in both categories. His exceptional performance earned him six All-Star selections and the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy in 2004 for leading the NHL in goals. In recognition of his contributions, Nash's number 61 was retired by the team in 2022.

Sergei Bobrovsky, affectionately known as "Bob," served as the team's goaltender from 2012 to 2019. During his tenure, he won the Vezina Trophy twice as the NHL's best goaltender and became the franchise leader in wins, shutouts, and save percentage. Bobrovsky's stellar performances were instrumental in the Blue Jackets' first-ever playoff series win in 2019, where they swept the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Zach Werenski, a defenseman drafted in 2015, has been a cornerstone of the Blue Jackets' blue line. Known for his offensive prowess and defensive reliability, Werenski holds the franchise record for most goals by a defenseman and continues to be a key figure in the team's defensive core.

Johnny Gaudreau, nicknamed "Johnny Hockey," joined the Blue Jackets in 2022 and quickly became a fan favorite. His exceptional playmaking ability and scoring touch have made him one of the league's most dynamic forwards. Tragically, Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were killed in a bicycle accident in 2024, a loss that deeply affected the Columbus community and the hockey world at large.

Beyond the ice, the Blue Jackets have been integral to Columbus's identity. Nationwide Arena, the team's home, stands as a symbol of the city's commitment to professional sports. The team's success and community involvement have fostered a strong bond with fans, making the Blue Jackets a source of pride for Columbus.

As the team continues to evolve, the legacy of its greatest players and the unwavering support of its fans ensure that the Columbus Blue Jackets will remain a vital part of the city's sports culture for years to come.
